EDUCATOR BIO:
Lara has her Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Creative Arts in Learning, designed to integrate the arts into school curriculae. Lara developed a rhythm and movement-based music curriculum for young students that includes the following components: *Dalcroze Eurhythmics Eurhythmics is a method of teaching the basic elements of music, including rhythm, dynamics, tone and form through movement. The Dalcroze approach balances the interactions between the sensory systems, memory, and conscious action in developing intelligence and creativity. Students deal with musical elements such as sound/silence, form, phrase, pattern, tempo, dynamics, nuance, articulation, steady beat, metric accent and dynamic accent by listening for the "music between the beats" and feeling the music in their bodies. Lara is working towards Certification in Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Carnegie Mellon University. *World Music Appreciation Lara draws upon her vast resources to bring an appreciation of music and dance forms from around the world. She teaches Middle Eastern drumming classes in Portland and has created percussion ensemble Rhythm & Muse with her students. *Emergent Literacy Lara has been compiling an annotated list of resources for educators including hundreds of titles of illustrated children's books with rhythmic verse that can be incorporated into music and movement classes. She has been invited to present workshops on integrating music and language arts at educator conferences, including ECMMA (Early Childhood Music and Movement Association) and PNAIS (Pacific Northwest Association for Independent Schools.) *Brain Dance Lara also has training in Anne Green Gilbert's Brain Dance, integrating right and left brain for optimal focus and concentration through a series of tactile, upper and lower body and cross lateral movements. |
